Meteor Majeure / Spider Skull Island
Venue Type: House
Year of First Show: 2021
Year of Last Show: 2023
Address: 209 Yearwood Ave
Named after the space station in Venture Brothers, Meteor Majeure hosted a wide variety of shows and events, from hardcore fests to music video shoots to doom yoga. Ash Bradburn ran the space from 2021 until his death in 2023. Shows were held in a large room inside his house for the first year or so, then they were moved to his garage. Attendees had to park at the MTSU Rutherford lot and walk. It was unbearably hot inside the house (especially in the summer) and the wood floors would often be slick with beer and sweat. There was no running water for the latter half of its existence, which meant the bathroom was off limits and folks had to use the back yard. Ash had a reputation for being impulsive, abrasive, and particular about his property. On more than one occasion, he decided he was done hosting shows and would cancel everything on the calendar with almost no notice – only to open back up again a few weeks later. Despite all of its quirks, Meteor Majeure was one of the few all-ages venues operating in this period and played an extremely important role in keeping the scene alive.

In Memoriam of Cade “Ash” Bradburn
(Contributed by Jack Brunson)
Cade “Ash” Bradburn was an integral member of the Murfreesboro house show scene from the early 2000s until his untimely death in 2023. He was a nearly lifelong Boro resident and spent large portions of his adult life as a steward and propagator of the Murfreesboro music and DIY scene.
In addition to running Meteor Majeure, Ash was a small electronics wizard, pedal builder, bass player, sound guy, doom yoga instructor, mentor and one hell of a DJ. He would often play the music of past Boro bands in the interludes between sets at Meteor and The Block. He played bass for a number of bands, but most notably the doom metal powerhouse Sovereign / Visioner. Ash also contributed to the scene as the sound guy for The Block in the mid-2010s, which was the primary operating venue at the time. He was known for running a tight ship – which was often loved and sometimes beguiled – but those shows always sounded fantastic and ran on time.
Ash had a reputation for being a fairly gruff personality, but his persistent, decades-long attempts to keep music in Murfreesboro alive and moving would paint a completely different picture. The way that Ash insisted on keeping the scene alive, even to his own detriment at times, shows that he had a deep love for his community and his community members. In his final years, Ash lived in a dark, cold house with no running water, mostly just so the kids in town would have a place to play.
Besides being the loudest bass player this town has ever known – the affect and positive influence that Ash had on this scene during his nearly two-decade residency cannot be overstated. He is severely missed by many.
