Ensuring the history of Bucket City never kicks the bucket.
Murfreesboro, TN has been a staple of the DIY music scene for decades, but as folks grow older and move on with their lives, the history of that scene is disappearing.
There have been many ideas for documenting the history of music in Murfreesboro, TN, but it is simply impossible for one documentary to cover everything that has happened or will happen in this town. The goal of this website is to capture and archive the history of Murfreesboro’s music scene in a format that can grow and evolve over time.
Why this? Why now?
I am sure I am not the first person to think of doing this project, but I was finally motivated to make the first move after listening to folks tell stories at Crossroads during Friendsgiving 2023. One of the attendees was active in the scene in the 2000s to early 2010s, but rarely comes out to shows or gatherings anymore. He was telling stories to people who just started going to shows in the mid-to-late 2010s into the 2020s. I fall squarely in the middle of those parties, so I felt an immense sense of joy and pride observing these interactions. That’s when I realized just how important these stories are and what a shame it is that this conversation only happened by chance. So, I started a spreadsheet of venues and asked around for some flyers the following week. What you see here is just the start of something and I am so excited to see where it goes.
